OC Jiu Jitsu and MMA will be affiliated with Team Checkmat which is the number #1 team for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and No-GI in the world. Our instructor, Marcel Louzado, is a 5-time world champion and continues to compete in tournaments.
We will have an extensive grappling program in place by the new year, and it should be exciting.

Many academies lack the supervision, and compassion, to show students how to train. For the most part, it s a mosh pit and many people are injured with this type of training.
The martial arts is something that has to become a habit. In order for it to be a habit, there can not be any obstacles. Even though obstacles are a normal path in life, few people want the challenges in the beginning. Unless you have had the martial arts on your mind for years, for the most part, any injuries would force you to rethink your endeavor.
It is our jobs as professionals to show you that path, and help you become a black belt.

The last fight between Babalu and Mousasi showed the ineffectiveness of using one predominant style – Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. To say the least, Babalu was knocked out while on his back, and in the guard.
Reality is harsh, and unforgiving. Many people are too brainwashed in the traditions of the art, the brand, the legacy, or what have you. All this is meaningless, when you are in a criminal situation. The benefits of losing weight, and getting fit pertains to many martial arts – since it is physical activity.
What the client should look for is the real benefit – self defense.
My white belt bjj skills do work in the real world! I live in a very nice neighborhood. Most people in this area have lived here for at least 15-20yrs. Yesterday, some local “taggers” thought it would be cool to vandalize someones wall on my street in broad daylight. My brother in law and I confronted them and unfortunately ended up in a minor altercation. I was able to take the young man down very quickly and apply a rear naked choke. He knew that every time he tried to resist, I would tighten the hold. Eventually, he knew he couldn’t get out of this position, so he gave up. I held him there until the police arrived. What I liked most, was that the training automatically kicked in and I controlled him without even thinking, and was able to stay surprisingly calm the whole time. This incident really made me realize the these skills do work in the real world in a uncontrolled environment. Although, I practice BJJ for exercise, it is good to know that the training really works.
Anthony is one of our students who has only been training a short time. What we teach really works.

Some parents in Orange County, are finally realizing, that most kids martial arts are a bunch of BS.
If your kid is out-of-control, there is not enough time in the day (except full adoption) that a marital arts academy can do to change them. Academies that market that they can change your child are giving you a song and dance. Those few hours a week are not going to change your child.
The martial arts, for kids, is to build self-confidence and prevent bullying. The self-confidence comes from the experience of seeing their techniques work, and the bully prevention is obvious.
Marital Arts is an insurance policy, just in case something happens to them. At the same time, they will see that MMA and Jiu-Jitsu really work as a self-defense tool, and will have the confidence to use it when necessary.

More academies in Orange County are becoming “Fighting” schools. This is a disturbing trend since the last thing society needs are spoiled kids (or people on the fringe) learning how to fight more efficiently. Turning these people into aggressive pit bulls is the last thing we want to do.
Learning to fight is not a virtue, but a hindrance to your future. Conditioning your mind into an aggressive posture will only raise the probability of you getting into trouble – with law enforcement and civil lawsuits. What do you think of the probability of a newly created “fighter” backing down when challenged?
That mindset can only get you into trouble.
Martial Arts is not an offensive, but a defensive art. What many of the Orange County MMA and Jiu Jitsu schools have done is to change it into the offensive. This has not only destroyed the fabric of what the martial arts represents, but had created a breed of people who are right on the edge of snapping.
You can do a search on the internet of the many fighters who have felony charges. If this is the culture where you want to learn….then call up your neighboorhood MMA school.
We are more than happy to provide a long list of these schools. We don’t need the headaches.
