We have implemented a new schedule for the students. We are also completing our new MMA curriculum and it will much easier for students to set goals for ranking purposes. Our MMA ranking is the only one of its kind in the US, and our students are benefiting from it. Already we have 3 students who will soon fight in their first professional MMA fights.
Not bad for a school that has only been opened for 18 months.
Kevin McDonald, OC Jiu Jitsu and MMA student, will now be one of our kids instructors. Kevin was recently promoted to purple belt and has many years of experience in the martial arts.
There are other schools that make their students, kids instructors, way too soon. I look at it as the “blind leading the blind”. Parents would be better off putting their kids into a Gymboree type franchise.
One of the faults of commercial martial arts studios are rewards are given with time. Many of these students end up knowing little about their art, but have the black belt to exemplify their superficial accomplishment.
If you think this is preparation for life, then you are sadly mistaken. Outside of this bubble mentaltiy, there lies a world that is based on performance and not time.
Parents and martial arts academies who encourage “the reward with time” mentality are doing little to prepare their children for the real world. This entitlement based mentality is the very thing that is breaking down the fabric of this society.
At OC Jiu Jitsu and MMA, you have to earn your rank. Rank is earned and not given with time.
