If you are looking for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and submission wrestling the answer is simple. You have the unique opportunity to train with the #1 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Team in the World-- CheckMat BJJ. You don't have to go to Brazil to get the best training in the world. Every year many teams, hundreds of schools, thousands of competitors and, coaches work hard participating in IBJJF (International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation) tournaments. In the end only one team can be crowned World Champions. Our team proved to stand above the rest. Don't believe it? Take a look for yourself.
1. CheckMat BJJ 12 points
2. Alliance BJJ 10 points
3. Gracie Barra 8 points
4. The Avengers 3 points
4. Lloyd Irvin 3 points
5. *No 5th place. Tie for 4th place.
The point system is based upon results at the gi and no-gi tournaments at the 2009, 2010, and 2011 IBJJF Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Championship also known as the Mundials. Each team received 3 points for a 1st place finish, 3 points for a 2nd place finish, 1 point for a 3rd place finish.
Our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy in Lake Forest, California is 1 of only 12 official affiliates in the United States of CheckMat BJJ. While there are many academies which pay to be an affiliate of a top BJJ team, the truth is that most of these schools do not have an instructor or competitors who contribute to their team’s top ranking. Therefore the standards and quality of instruction does not reflect that of their parent affiliation. Orange County Jiu-Jitsu is one of Team CheckMat's marquee locations. Our head instructor has not only won many titles as one of CheckMat's top competitors, but also served as team coach for several of their World Champion teams. Behind the scenes some of the top current World Champions and World Championship medalists pay our Head Instructor for private lessons.

At Orange County Jiu-Jitsu & MMA we teach Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, submission wrestling and mixed martial arts. The apex of our grappling system is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling martial art which was made world famous by legend Royce Gracie and his family. BJJ involves using leverage, angles, and superior position to defeat and opponent. An individual with superior position is in a significantly better situation to apply a finishing hold called a submission or begin striking. Therefore, this martial art enables a smaller individual to defeat a larger opponent or an attacker. Jiu-Jitsu is the best martial art for women who are often forced to the ground while being assaulted. We recommend this style for men, women, and children searching for an amazing workout and practical self-defense. BJJ is supplementary and complementary to the Olympic Sport of Judo. Our curriculum is built around our belief that an effective martial arts student must be a well-round. They must be able to not only control an opponent on the ground, but also on the feet. Therefore we mix the martial arts of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, and submission wrestling.
